Well, much less painful today, although I can show off some beautifully coloured bruises.

Mum, Rob and I attended a presentation about how to go about battery storage for solar energy last night at the CIty of Vincent (whose Council Building are a lot nicer than Stirlings.) http://www.cleannrg.com.au/battery-storage/ gave the presentation, well thought out and presented and lots of food for thought.

While it might not be practical for us to do the battery thing, we can certainly look at getting more PV panels and maybe 6.6 up there instead of the measly 1.5 we've got.

Then we all drove down to poor old Scarborough again to give it our business dollar, and had some nice food at Zambrero's.

I cannot wait to get a solar battery! They're not in my price bracket right now, but every year they drop a little more.

The three things that stood out for me:
1/ The batteries need to be kept cool. As in below 35C ambient. And under shelter. Tricky in Perth, where basements are rare.
2/ If you have 3 phase power, the most you can hook in via battery is 2.5Kw, due to Local Regulations (because of phase balancing issues).
3/ The newer battery systems are actually much bigger than they claim, so that they can work on an 80/20 cycle (never charge over 80%, never discharge below 20%) to maximise the battery life.

Really interesting.
